Have a written plan before the outage. During it, confirm the problem is the internet, switch to your offline mode, tell the kitchen how orders will arrive, and keep a paper log. After it, check that every order was sent once and that payments settled. Fix the cause the next morning.
Before: write the plan down
An outage plan is a one-page sheet near the pass. It has your internet provider's support number, your account number, the name of the person who decides to switch to paper, and the steps below. Print it and check it every few months.
Also know your options. A backup connection, such as a phone hotspot or a second line, can keep a card terminal alive. Some systems keep taking orders without the internet and send them later. Learn what yours does and does not do. See POS offline mode: what actually works.
During: the first ten minutes
First, confirm the cause. Reboot the router once, wait two minutes, and test with a phone on mobile data. Do not spend twenty minutes on cables during service.
Second, decide how orders reach the kitchen. If your kitchen screens depend on the internet, switch to paper tickets or a printer on the local network. Tell every station out loud.
Third, tell the front. Servers need to know whether cards work. If they do not, post a clear note and offer cash or a later payment link. Do not promise anything you cannot do.
Fourth, keep a log. Write each order on a numbered pad: time, items, table, and whether it was paid. This is your record for the next step.
What offline modes really do
Offline order entry means the device keeps the order and sends it later. It does not mean every part of the system works. Printing, kitchen screens and cards each have their own rules. In Zorveta One, offline order entry on the POS keeps working, and the store hub keeps kitchen screens and printing running without the internet. Ask in the demo how cards behave in an outage for your setup.
After: close the loop
When the connection returns, check that each held order was sent once. Compare your paper log with the system. Look for duplicates and for orders that never arrived. Settle any card payments that waited. Then talk to the team for five minutes: what slowed us down?
The next morning
Call your provider and ask for the cause in writing. If the outages repeat, consider a second connection. A satellite or mobile internet backup is available as an option in managed technology.
